Two things I learnt that I think are the most important 1. denotation -> connotation process: This process helps us to better analyze the text, no matter the type. This standardized method makes our analysis more organized and more logical. 2. terminologies for slogan, photo, posters, etc. By using these terminlogies, we can be more precise and looks more professional to analyze text or artworks. It also allows us to look at the text in different aspects to get a complete view.


genre(identify its features) - codes - conventions e.g. Identify posters of horror movie

key rhetorical devices: - metaphor - simile - personification - alliteration(头韵) - anaphora(顶真) - hyperbole - rhetocial questions

Action verbs matter. concise and precise. examples: - The cat went leaped to the window. - She looked stared/behold at the painting. - He made baked a cake for the party. - They talked about fabricated their plans. - The teacher gave confused/murdered/assassinated the students with assignments.

Concrete details to create imagery. Examples: - The project is going well. The project’s process made everyone smile. - They will meet soon. - The results were good. - He is a nice person. He saved a kitten in a storm - The weather is bad today.

Avoid Overmodification (Replace with more precise diction)
